2020 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta
Regatta Chairman’s Update
Who can believe that we are heading towards the end of the year already?
In just over two months time, we will be at the tail end of the 18th edition of the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta.
The Warren Jones Regatta has come of age in the last few years, and, has grown into a bevy of activities to complement the core purpose of providing local youth yachting talent a top-level sporting and professional opportunity as Warren Jones had, himself, provided to many others in his life.
In 2020, with the Warren Jones Regatta celebrating its’ 18th Birthday, local athletes will again;
Pitch themselves against the best youth sailors in the world on home turf,
Learn to perform in the cauldron that is Perth Waters and sport,
Make a name for themselves and follow a proven pathway to international racing and employment,
Gain international ranking points to receive invitations to compete further afield, and
Repeat.
None of this can happen without the maintenance of a fit for purpose fleet of world class yachts and a high functioning regatta management team provided by Swan River Sailing, supporting partner clubs, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and Royal Perth Yacht Club, over 60 volunteers and officials and, of course, The Warren Jones Foundation itself.
I acknowledge significant sponsors; City of Perth, Okeland Communities and Packer & Co for their valued long-term support along with Gala Fundraising Luncheon suppliers, Leeuwin Estate, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and Gage Roads.
I look forward to hosting other minor sponsors through corporate events such as;
Beach Clean Up (AM) Wednesday 29th January,
Corporate Cup (PM) Wednesday 29th January,
Women on Water leadership and networking event Thursday 30th January, and
Warren Jones Gala Luncheon Friday 31st January.
This event is growing, as is the infrastructure around it, and, 2020 sees the return of two additional qualifying events for locals in;
Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club’s JESS Match Cup to be held on the 16 to 19th of January, and
Royal Perth Yacht Club’s Colin Mullins Youth Regatta 24th of January
There will be an exciting announcement at this year’s Warren Jones Gala Fundraising Luncheon on Friday 31st January commencing at high noon at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club followed by a flotilla to Perth Waters to watch the finals on the 18th Annual Warren Jones Regatta in Perth Waters.
This year’s athletes are selected from over 30 expressions of interest. The resultant field hold the highest ever combined ranking scores and are the most international in #WoJo history.
Please show your support by attending the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta Gala Luncheon on Friday the 31st of January with guest speaker Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club*
