2019 City of Perth Festival of Sail Wrap Up

2019 CITY OF PERTH FESTIVAL OF SAIL WRAP UP

FRIDAY  1ST FEBRUARY  2019

Day six of the 2019 City of Perth Festival of Sail began with the major fundraising event of the regatta – the Warren Jones Gala Luncheon. Over 200 guests attended the event hosted at Royal Perth Yacht Club, sponsored by Hyatt Regency Perth, Leeuwin Estate and Gage Roads Brewing Co. At the luncheon guests were able to bid on exclusive auction items such as a China Cup Experience, being a team member for SailGP on the Hudson River, Date Nights for a Year Package, The America’s Cup 1983 Memorabilia Port, Steve Plain‘s Bottle of Limeburners Scotch and a LGFG Fashion House Custom Made Bespoke Suit. The event raised just under $30,000 for future editions of the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta!

This years guests had the pleasure of hearing from 2018 Australian Adventurer of the Year, Steve Plain who shared his inspiring story. After breaking his neck at Cottesloe Beach in 2014, Steve went on to climb the seven summits in under four months with absolutely no mountaineering experience! To read more about Steve’s story, visit his website.

After the luncheon, guests were able to board spectator boats for a close up view of the finals racing. (Perhaps feeling a little too close for comfort sometimes as teams used their boats as obstacles!)

The 2019 City of Perth Festival of Sail was a huge success! The Discover Sailing days had nearly 1000 people experience sailing. The Beach Clean Up saw more than 15 bags of rubbish collected from the City of Perth Foreshore. The Corporate Cup event saw the crowning of The Lucky Shag Bar & UWA Team as 2019 Corporate Cup Champions. The Women on Water event had over 60 entrepreneurial women hear from guest speakers Belinda Stowell and Jessica Patterson before experiencing sailing with elite sailing coaches. The Warren Jones International Youth Regatta saw five days of world class match racing and the crowning of the first European team as Warren Jones Champions and the Gala Luncheon raised nearly $30,000 for future editions of the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta!
